Hotels, malls, and households across the Philippines prepare for a month-end scarefest just as the chilly winds of Amihan roll in. There are so many Halloween-themed events this year that you might get dizzy deciding what to do. If you’re looking forward to a killer Halloween this 2018, here are 5 activities that’ll get your adrenaline pumping.
5 Things to Do to Shake Up Your Halloween
1. Tour a Few Graves.
Book yourself a bus to Baguio and pay respects at the Cemetery of Negativism in Camp John Hay. 16 headstones dot the site, dedicated to negative thoughts like “Itz Not Possible” or “Kantou Nuthin Wright”. The headstones here will make you laugh one moment and think deeply the next. A sign at the entrance encourages visitors to bury their negative thoughts and move on with life.
If you can stretch your budget a bit more, treat yourself to a mini-vacation in Camiguin and take a dip near its famous Sunken Cemetery. It first sank below sea level after Mount Vulcan erupted in 1871. Over the years, succeeding volcanic eruptions pushed the cemetery deeper into the sea, the locals put up a large cross to mark the site. Grab your snorkel for a look at some coral-encrusted tombs.
2. Go Exploring.
Walk alongside the shadows of Philippine history with an evening visit to Fort Santiago or a day trip to Corregidor. With a bloody past and fairly frequent sightings of soldiers from past eras, it’s not surprising that ghost hunters adore these tourist spots.
3. Solve a Murder.
Ever wanted to be a detective? Pan Pacific Manila and Murder Manila organized the perfect event for you. On October 26, “Revenge at the Reunion” unfolds on the 7th floor of the Sunset Lounge & Bar, giving guests the chance to solve a murder mystery. A ticket costs P950 and includes unlimited pasta and chicken wings. The game itself begins at 7PM.
Just in time for Halloween, Breakout Manila currently includes several hair-raising puzzles among its lineup of escape rooms. For example, the Red Door escape room lets you investigate the paranormal events that killed a husband and wife and left their children traumatized. This room, inspired by Insidious: The Last Key, can be found in Breakout Manila’s SM North Edsa branch. Meanwhile, the Katipunan branch has a Walking Dead-themed room where you are trapped in the same place as a starved Walker.
Check out Breakout Manila’s site for the full list of playable rooms.
5. Dress Up!
Jump into the heart of the Halloween spirit by popping into your dream costume and roaming the streets for free candy. Why buy a costume if you can create your own, though? Stretch your creative muscle and try to mimic iconic OOTDs previously worn by your favorite media personalities or movie characters. You can also try pulling off the Ariel Swakto Pack. If you want to bring your barkada into the fun, pick a theme for the whole group to follow, such as the Addams Family. Halloween is just a one-day celebration, but the pictures will last for years to come.
Are you thinking of what to do for Halloween yet? Pile on the thrills by including these 5 things in your plans. You can even cap off the celebrations by bringing your friends to an adult playground in the metro.
